What Can Counselling Help With?

Counselling

We provide individual and couples counselling for both affected persons and family members.

Counselling can help issues such as:
  • Relationships with a partner, or in the family
  • Anxiety and low mood
  • Sense of self, identity and body image
  • Fears for the future
  • Coping with uncertainty
  • Life choices and making difficult decisions
  • The emotional impact of symptoms or treatment side-effects
  • Managing difficult tests or medical procedures
  • Loss, grief and change

Counselling provides the opportunity to unpack and explore difficult experiences, or life-changing news. The support of a trained professional can help alleviate emotional distress and/or help individuals or couples find a way forward to cope with the actual, or potential, impact of a rare condition on oneself, and on relationships.

Couples counselling

It is not unusual for couples to find their relationship and family life can be impacted in all sorts of ways practically and emotionally when living with a rare condition.

Counselling can help support couples in managing the emotional and psychological impact of rare conditions upon their relationship, and in working towards better communication and creative solutions to problems.

We have trained and experienced counsellors to work with couples who are same-sex or straight, LGBTQI +, living together or apart, married or partnered.

Couples Counselling can help with:
  • Coping with anxiety and stress
  • The dynamics of caring, or being cared for
  • Understanding emotional coping styles
  • Shifting power dynamics
  • Parenting
  • Family dynamics
  • Making difficult choices
  • Sexual problems
  • Planning for the future
