Mission & Vision
Vision
Our vision is that the psychological and emotional aspects of living with a rare condition are recognised as an integral part of rare condition care, with access to specialist quality services for all.
We believe that everyone impacted by rare conditions (affected individuals, their carers and/or family members) can benefit from and, if needed, should have access to a trained, qualified specialist rare condition counsellor with an understanding of their specific rare condition.
Mission
Our mission is to provide affordable, timely access to highly specialised counselling for the rare condition community, and campaign for recognition of the importance of specialist mental health support by informing policy, practice and promoting standards of excellence.
Aims
To make our vision a reality we aim to:
- Provide access to affordable, specialist, psychotherapy, counselling and wellbeing support to everyone impacted by a rare condition.
- Become a centralised hub of expertise for rare condition mental health to inform policy and practice, and promote standards of excellence.
- Campaign for increased recognition of the importance of specialist mental health support for the rare condition community.
Our principles
When working to fulfil our mission and vision we will:
- Complement (not rival) existing statutory providers of counselling and wellbeing services.
- Work in partnership with other groups/organisations in the rare community and seek to form productive, practical and strategic alliances.
- Support rare condition group/organisation leaders to recognise their own mental wellbeing as being as important as those who they support.
- Help to grow the evidence base relating to mental health and rare condition, both through our own research, contributing to the research of others, and by stimulating interest in this area.
- Be generous in sharing our expertise and work strategically to increase rare condition awareness throughout the broader therapeutic sector.
